I've been really frustrated with this show for awhile now. I'm sick of the writers treating Ried like he's weak and constantly throwing shit at him. Like frig, let the guy have something good happen for him for once. Why does he always get the short end of the stick? What because he's younger, smaller and smarter than the rest. It's really annoying.

I am sick of it too, I can't stand this "Poor Reid gets whumped, again" anymore. Matthew was good with this storyline from what I read somewhere though. I don't think they anticipated such a strong fan reaction...

While I hate the “kill the cop’s wife/girlfriend” trope with a passion, if I were a male cast member on CM, I would also prefer my character’s girl to be dead. With all the hatred caused by the introduction of Beth (she sure must be an unsub because she dared to lay hands on Hotch) and the theories that Maeve would be the team’s stalker/another unsub almost immediately after she was introduced, I would not want to deal with a rabid female fan base. So with this story line they established that Reid is willing and able to get a partner but they did not have to deal with the fallout of jealous crazy fans for too long. Instead they gathered sympathy for the poor woobie. See, everybody wins.
