Hey all! While I was poking around the internet trying to find information about
flameturnedblue's post about the so-called fraternization policy, I came across a pretty sweet article on the FBI's website about the actual BAU. Did you know there are actually two BAU regions, east and west? I did not. Also, I didn't know that the BAU is actually a branch of the NCAVC- the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime. The other two branches of the NCAVC are CASMIRC- Child Abduction and Serial Murder Investigative Resources Center, and ViCAP, which we've all heard of on the show a time or two. (Violent Criminal Apprehension Program.)
It's a pretty cool little article, and talks about how the BAU came up with the "Child Abduction Response Plan," which is talked about on the show during child abduction episodes. You can find the article here. :)
I also found an electronic version of the FBI's 'Standard of Conduct,' or their ethics code. It gets pretty long and is VERY wordy, but if you wanna take a look, you can find it here.
What I found most amusing in it? That Rossi can't make any money off his books while he's an active agent. lolz. Poor Rossi, with his new Italian leather shoes... better stretch out that bank account, Agent Rossi! :P
"(a) Compensation for teaching, speaking or writing. Except as permitted by paragraph (a)(3) of this section, an employee, including a special Government employee, shall not receive compensation from any source other than the Government for teaching, speaking or writing that relates to the employee's official duties."
The only exemption is for teaching, so sorry Rossi, you're out of luck! :P
-Happy Thursday, everyone! <3

FBI 'fraternization' policy?

Howdy all!
In CM reference has been made to 'fraternization' policies in the FBI. Some of our CM-based fanfic, even, has been governed by consideration of this 'policy' - the idea that Agents are forbidden from getting romantically involved with each other, or that the practice is at the very least frowned upon by the Bureau.
Well, ho, I stumbled across this Master's thesis by Captain Jeffrey Frye of the United States Air Force:
On p.53, the good Cap'n compares the frat policies of military/fed/other agencies, and the FBI, very notably has no written or unwritten policies on dating, including subordinate/supervisor dating; nor is dating discouraged.
He states: 'According to Edward Boudt, Principal Legal Advisor for the Cincinnati branch of the FBI, any agent can date whomever they choose, no matter whether the other person is another agent, a supervisor, or any of the support personnel (clerks, paralegal). Boudt stated that quite a number of agents are married to each other and throughout the FBI there are several marriages between supervisors, agents, and support personnel.'
I want to note that this is just a general FYI, that people might find interesting - I'm not necessarily saying that the CM peeps should suddenly start going nuts with each other...simply that it's not outside the realms of reality and thus, possibility. In saying that, this info is at least nine years old (the thesis was submitted in 1999), so perhaps a policy has been established since.
Does anyone know anything to the contrary? Thoughts?
Can we now feel a little less guilty for envisioning Hotch and (insert CM character here) having a spell of afternoon delight in the conference room? Regardless of whether something is considered OOC in the CM context, the FBI 'fraternization' deal ain't factually accurate, it seems.
This is what happens when I get distracted and should be writing my own thesis.
ETA: Irrefutable proof of the laxness of the FBI's frat. policies XD www.youtube.com/watch

Title: For All the Roads You Followed
Author:
eternal_sadist
Fandom: Criminal Minds/CSI: New York
Rating: FRM for violent imagery
Pairing/Characters: Jason Gideon, Mac Taylor, Don Flack, Jr., Aaron Hotchner, and others; Aaron Hotchner/Jason Gideon
Summary: Following Frank's attack at Aaron and Jason's home, Jason takes a trip to New York City to clear his head and meet up with an old friend. Not returning wasn't part of the plan. Post-ep for 3x01; part of the AU kid-verse begun in What About Now.
Notes: This piece contextualises the canon events of "No Way Out" [2x13] and "No Way Out II" [2x23] into this 'verse. The reader can approach this piece with familiarity in either or both fandoms: it is set in NYC, but revolves around premises of Criminal Minds; the salient events of both are explained.
Disclaimer: They are not mine. If you thought they were, you either have intel I want, or you need more help than I thought. The premise is
melliyna's; I am simply dabbling in her sandbox.
( It's harder to get it back than it is to get through it. )
