And Buzzfeed has a cute article about CM: 17 Tiny Things The Writers Of “Criminal Minds” Need You To Know .Which you probably already knew if you've been hanging around here, but it's still interesting. And they apparently know how unlikely the character backgrounds are time-wise. And apparently you can use a cognitive interview to find your keys.

Everybody always says it would be great to have more casefic in this fandom, but crafting a good one is exacting work. I can't be the only one who could use all the help she can get when it comes to getting the details right, can I?

So this post is for sharing your go-to resources for writing Criminal Minds fanfic. Links to online material are especially welcome, since they're freely available to everybody, but if you have hard-copy titles you'd like to recommend, please do.

ALSO: Please feel free to REQUEST a particular kind of resource you'd like to see. Maybe somebody has just exactly the right thing in their files or Delicious account somewhere.

Anyway, here's what's in my bookmarks and on my shelves:

The Basics )

Forensics, Cadavers, and Physical Evidence )

Serial Killers and Criminal Psych )

Miscellaneous/Tangential )

Any more? Please share!

I was just channel surfing and found a show on MSNBC called "Criminal Mindscape."  It's an interview of a serial killer named Joel Rifkin by a guy who literally introduced himself as a former special agent of the FBI's behavioral analysis unit.  It's really cool, and giving me a lot of perspective on Criminal Minds.  I'd really recommend it to anyone who is interested in the profiling aspect of the show.  Here's a link to a preview, and here's a listing of upcoming episodes.

Mods, I'm pretty sure this is related to Criminal Minds, but delete if it isn't.  Thanks. :)

Hey all! While I was poking around the internet trying to find information about [livejournal.com profile] flameturnedblue's post about the so-called fraternization policy, I came across a pretty sweet article on the FBI's website about the actual BAU. Did you know there are actually two BAU regions, east and west? I did not. Also, I didn't know that the BAU is actually a branch of the NCAVC- the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime. The other two branches of the NCAVC are CASMIRC- Child Abduction and Serial Murder Investigative Resources Center, and ViCAP, which we've all heard of on the show a time or two. (Violent Criminal Apprehension Program.)

It's a pretty cool little article, and talks about how the BAU came up with the "Child Abduction Response Plan," which is talked about on the show during child abduction episodes. You can find the article here. :)

I also found an electronic version of the FBI's 'Standard of Conduct,' or their ethics code. It gets pretty long and is VERY wordy, but if you wanna take a look, you can find it here.

What I found most amusing in it? That Rossi can't make any money off his books while he's an active agent. lolz. Poor Rossi, with his new Italian leather shoes... better stretch out that bank account, Agent Rossi! :P

"(a) Compensation for teaching, speaking or writing. Except as permitted by paragraph (a)(3) of this section, an employee, including a special Government employee, shall not receive compensation from any source other than the Government for teaching, speaking or writing that relates to the employee's official duties."

The only exemption is for teaching, so sorry Rossi, you're out of luck! :P

-Happy Thursday, everyone! <3
