Hey all! While I was poking around the internet trying to find information about flameturnedblue's post about the so-called fraternization policy, I came across a pretty sweet article on the FBI's website about the actual BAU. Did you know there are actually two BAU regions, east and west? I did not. Also, I didn't know that the BAU is actually a branch of the NCAVC- the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime. The other two branches of the NCAVC are CASMIRC- Child Abduction and Serial Murder Investigative Resources Center, and ViCAP, which we've all heard of on the show a time or two. (Violent Criminal Apprehension Program.) 

It's a pretty cool little article, and talks about how the BAU came up with the "Child Abduction Response Plan," which is talked about on the show during child abduction episodes. You can find the article here. :)

I also found an electronic version of the FBI's 'Standard of Conduct,' or their ethics code. It gets pretty long and is VERY wordy, but if you wanna take a look, you can find it here.

What I found most amusing in it? That Rossi can't make any money off his books while he's an active agent. lolz. Poor Rossi, with his new Italian leather shoes... better stretch out that bank account, Agent Rossi! :P

"(a) Compensation for teaching, speaking or writing. Except as permitted by paragraph (a)(3) of this section, an employee, including a special Government employee, shall not receive compensation from any source other than the Government for teaching, speaking or writing that relates to the employee's official duties."

The only exemption is for teaching, so sorry Rossi, you're out of luck! :P

What I found most amusing in it? That Rossi can't make any money off his books while he's an active agent. lolz. Poor Rossi, with his new Italian leather shoes... better stretch out that bank account, Agent Rossi! :P

Maybe they're pleather shoes and Reid just can't tell the difference?? lol On top of the fact that he can't earn a dime from his books while he's with the Bureau, he also has to pay alimony to, what, three ex-wives? Woah. FBI salary must be pretty good! :P

Well, he has made money on the books he wrote before he rejoined the FBI. AFAIK most writers get their money when publishers buy their manuscript and the some sort of bonus if their book is a surprise hit (and then later, sort of residuals which are rather minor as book sales dwindle), so he's not loosing that much money there. But if he published any books before he retires again then he can't receive any compensation.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

Most writers get the money up front when their manuscript is purchased, yes, but then once book sales hit the amount of the royalty, they start receiving a portion of all the sales. Rossi wouldn't be able to receive that money, but I wonder if he's allowed to put it into a special account that he won't touch until he retires again...? *ponders* Plus, no more book tours while he's an active agent, which popular writers can make a pretty penny on. Which means that the episode Zoe's Reprise? Either couldn't have happened or... I don't even know. The 'Standard of Conduct' is pretty specific about no money or endorsements while you're an employee... oh well. It's a TV show. :/

I don't know if I imagined this or not, but isn't Rossi already wealthy, isn't he from a wealthy background, or is all that money he does have just from his books. I dunno if I'm getting mixed up with what people have put in fics and whether I'm confusing that as cannon or what.

But thanks for the article, haven't read it but I will eventually, but the Codes of Conduct will be very handy indeed, because I'm writing for Criminal Minds and Numb3rs, and I don't really know much about what goes on in the FBI and the rules and stuff. So yeah that will be a big help for my fics.

Judging from Morgan's comment that the "millions of copies" Rossi's books have sold are "millions of reasons for him not to come back," that's all royalty and book tour money. Rossi also could have been tapped to consult for movies or television shows, which is another pretty source of income.

Prentiss and Hotch, on the other hand, both come from Money. Which. I find terribly amusing because they're both so very much alike about it, downplaying the family names as much as possible.

Also, interesting to know that in real life, it's not called the BAU, it's still called the BSU, and it's the smallest part of that whole department. And yes...they still have basement bunker offices ;)

Sorry, I'm going to grad school for behavioral analysis and I study my career path.

*If Rossi came back to the FBI as a consultant, he could still make bank. But the show illudes that he's a full SSA again.

It must be in the past few years, because a lot of people still call it the BSU. Either way, though...:p I realize my comment may have come off snobby and I didn't mean it that way, I just meant to be silly.
