This was discussed briefly on the episode discussion post, but i felt it needed it's own as it could be a HUGE added pain for our beloved leader.

The reaper, Hotch... was there a rape? it was most definitely insinuated, but i felt it was more of a "wait, WHAT?!" moment that passed to quickly to get  a full read on the situation.

im thinking no. if it had, i feel they would have put in more content to support it. all we really saw was a stab that looked below the belt. and the reaper was still fully in pants through the whole thing.

unless it's something hotch blocked from his memory...

does anyone remember what the reaper said to him? about stabbing being a substitute for sex?

if this has been discussed or anything already, feel free to mod it up.

Metaphorical Rape? Yes. Definitely.

Physical? No.

Again, it comes down to Foyet getting the best he can out of his victims, sexual sadist or not, and him physically raping Hotch wouldn't have done it for him.

Hotch didn't show fear to him, he didn't give in to him.

So Foyet knows that while he can scar Hotch physically, the emotional scarring will take a lot longer - hence the Haley/Jack scare.

Again - I think the MO changed because Hotch didn't play the game. Foyet went under for several weeks and then popped back up again to go after Hotchner specifically. He planned this and he let Hotchner live for a reason.

And I don't think that reason has anything to do with a physical rape/genital mutilation as it was mentioned.

I completely agree that the scene was a definite metaphor and his actions, the repeated stabbing WAS his act of "raping" Hotchner, and I'm thinking he probably was aroused while doing it, but I don't think he went any further physically than that.

To me, the overriding reason Foyet does anything is to strike fear into people, why he didn't kill Morgan, he couldn't see the fear in his eyes, because Morgan was unconscious. It was mentioned in Omnivore - so he is leaving Hotch alive because frankly he wants to scare him, and what better way than to take away everything and everyone he cares about?

I think Foyet expected Hotchner to not be afraid of him; but had Hotch shown fear at the gunshot, I also think that Foyet would have just killed him quickly and left it at that.
