When will the Criminal Minds producers loosen up Hotch? — Roly
ADAM: To hear executive producer Ed Bernero tell it, they don't need to loosen him up at all. "We all believe that Hotch's stoic nature, his strength, his resolve, is one of the glues that holds the show together," Bernero says. "His unflinching portrayal of a true-believer G-man allows all the other characters to be a bit eccentric...  because there is a representation of the real FBI in Hotch." That said, Bernero promises the show's 100th episode will give fans a completely different view of Hotch.

I can't find the exact article, but I read the other day in TV GUIDE that Ed Bernero will never work with Mandy again after he failed to show for the season 3 table read.  He also said that nobody on the cast misses Mandy and that Mandy really hurt the whole team at CM.  Basically, he had nothing nice to say.  When I find the article or link, I'll post it.

DLM was actually cancelled after the second season :P:P

I know, I was actually referring to his refusal to appear in the tv movie, despite not having any other projects at the time. The lack of Rube really affected the quality imo. All of the other actors except for Laura Harris, who was filming Defying Gravity and was unable to, returned.

While I agree that Rube's absence affected the movie hugely, maybe he was simply committed to other projects at the time of filming (how do we know otherwise - has he said so?), just like Laura Harris. He tours extensively with his concerts, so it could have been a case of being booked up with other things. I think we have to give him the benefit of the doubt on that one. And even if he said no outright to the movie, that's not quitting.

I think the manner in which Mandy chose to exit CM was appalling, but he's the one who has to live with that ill-chosen decision. The show has grown from strength to strength since he left, and if it had fallen apart, he would have been responsible for job losses and plenty of devastation. We can only be thankful that it worked out for the best, and move on.

I really don't see where we're disagreeing here? This wasn't an attack on MP-- whose work I've been an fan of since childhood btw. I was repeating rumblings I've heard about his poor work ethic, which I've seen no evidence to contradict. It's not something which particularly concerns me either way, as I tried to make clear in my first comment.

I didn't say you were attacking Mandy, I'm just responding to your comments about DLM (your initial comment suggested he'd bailed, put in the same category as Chicago Hope), and saying you were 'ultimately unsurprised' by his exit from CM, after he'd left only one show before that in an otherwise relatively uncontroversial and lengthy career.

Honestly, the problem here is that you aren't me and your thought process isn't the same mine. Yes, I was unsurprised because yes, he has done this before. Unfortunately, you can't determine how other people are going to judge people's behavour. And the way I see it, he did bail on the DLM film.

I'm a little weirded out that you replied in particular to my comment when there are others in the post saying the generally the same thing. The second comment you replied to me would've been just as relevant as a reply to the post in general, including your advice to "move on."

Neither of us know the full details either way, which makes this a circular argument or discussion or whatever you feel like calling it.

Look, I responded to your particular reference to DLM, which I spotted while reading through the entire thread. Others were having discussions among themselves about the Chris Eccleston/John Barrowman comments. It's all relevant to the main topic. I don't see anything wrong with having a discussion with someone or commenting on a point they'd made that sparked some interest. My original comment to you was a single short sentence on DLM. And so on it goes - it's like a merry-go round! I don't presume to read your mind, all I have to run with are the words you write.

I love criminalxminds because people usually have interesting discussions, talk with other fans, and give their two cents.
