UPDATE: CBS' 'Criminal Minds' Cuts Female Cast But Will Add New Female Cast Member

UPDATE TUESDAY 11AM: A source close to CBS stressed that the casting changes on Criminal Minds were a creative, not financial decision, and a way to "refresh a veteran drama series." A new regular female cast member will be brought in sometime next season to fill the void that will be left by Cook's departure.

That's the only way this will make any sense, and the only reason behind all this that I could accept. I mean, if AJ wants to do something new, more power to her! I'll miss JJ, a lot, but that's irrelevant if AJ wants out.

But it's all rather confusing, at this point. If it's not financial, why cut the number of episodes Prentiss will be in...?

I think I need to stop speculating until there's a final, official word.

ikr? If AJ wants to leave, fine, we'll miss her a lot, but that's her decision. But why reduce Paget? That's the part that doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah.

It seems to me that if they're letting A.J. go, and they're going to replace her with another actress, that there must be something going on between A.J. and the network that we don't know about. Maybe it's a dispute over money, maybe she wants to move on to other things, I don't know. Could be that they're going to do things with Emily's character that we don't know about, and that's why Paget's contract has been renegotiated as well.

I agree...we're better off not speculating until we have more facts.
