The Zodiac is my favourite (if I can call it that) unsolved serial murder cases. They're right that anyone can find all the information they want about the Zodiac online and in books, and there was a movie about it not too long ago.
That birthday scene was adorable and the Rossi/Reid cheek kisses + the Morgan/Reid hug but the episode was underwhelming this week. It was a step up from the new one a few weeks ago.
Pretty good episode, the unsubs weren't terribly interesting but the case and team dynamic were great. And there was just the right touch of angst over Reid turning 30.
I figured the pause after Emily asked how they could have forgotten his birthday was meant to imply that is occured sometime during her absence, their suspension or the senate committee hearings... meaning that everyone would have been preoccupied, or not together during the time of his birthday.
I enjoyed tonight's episode for the most part. I do have a concern or two though...
Aren't we supposed to be getting more of a storyline about Reid this season, and maybe some closure on the headaches? Also, if I recall correctly, Gubler's contract expires at the end of this season, and I haven't heard anything about it being renewed yet. Which leads to my main question -- was the interaction with the tumour-chip genius a sign of things to come? I hope not... but the fact that Reid knew so much about the technology, the company and the implications it is going to have in medicine leads me to believe that he's been reading up on the topic. I know they didn't find anything physically wrong with him last season, but that can change in the case of brain tumours. Also, his feelings about not having accomplished enough in his (short) life so far can be a sign of getting older (especially with milestone birthdays), but also indicative of one coming to terms with their mortality.
I seriously hope this isn't going where I suspect it is... but if Gubler's contract isn't renewed, I can totally see them pulling a brain tumour storyline (like every other show did a couple of seasons ago.)
Also forgot to add how I aww`ed watching Reid all alone when no one wanted to talk to him ~ when he really looked jealous that everyone was flocking Prentiss. He really looked like he just wanted to participate in a conversation.
This episode I thought was one of the better episodes this season. It felt like a normal episode of Criminal Minds and I especially enjoyed the whole Zodiac portion of it. The Zodiac is one of the more intriguing serial killers to me personally. I don't know why but he just is. I especially loved the part where the guy was standing on the stairs talking to the press saying it could be his cousin and Reid totally proves it is not him and speaks to the camera directly. I thought that was hilarious.
As far as the headaches they spoke with Erica Messer and said that they want to finish up that storyline this season. They originally wanted to end it last season but they wanted to include Jane Lynch but they were having troubles shooting around her schedule with Glee (so I guess if you feel like it you can blame Glee). They really want to finish that storyline this year.
As far as the contract goes....I just REALLY hope that the Gube signs on and continues for the duration of this show. I don't see why he would not want to renew his contract so we will just have to see.
And another thing - were Emily's expectations of her career really so low that she'd expected to end up as a bored socialite? She's a hell of a lot more motivated than that.
No gloves? JJ and Reid touched the envelope without gloves? Okay, sometimes I´ve to keep in mind it´s just a show :-) I like that Reid is more forceful in this ep. He´s not a kid anymore. I only wish that especially Morgan will treat him with more respect.
All in all a quite good ep! And I so love, love Emily! She´s the best!
I haven't watched CM at all this season, but I got my dad to tell me when the Zodiac episode aired, and he did. I guess I would say I'm fascinated by the Zodiac case, and though the premise was a little different than I expected they would take it, I enjoyed watching it.
I can't believe they all forgot Reid's birthday, though. Come on, lol.
Growing up as a geek girl, I have burned out my sympathy for whiny geek boys.
Some complaints are legitimate, getting beaten up sucks, and I can totally identified with that because I got beaten up too, but um, I find it hard to sympathize with the geek boy who's whining about how some popular conventionally pretty girl he rates higher than geek girls is too shallow to like him when he's doing said whining without a hint of irony. When Howard Wolowitz on Big Bang Theory explained that he stopped seeing Bernadette Rostenkowski when they started having a good relationship, because he was holding out for a Megan Fox (and one that would act like his arm candy instead of intimidating him with her own capabilities), I wanted to feed him to the salt sucker from M-113.
Geek boys get beaten up for not being 'manly' enough to play football by jocks intimidated by their intellect, maybe, well, I don't know why my age and gender peers gave me such a hard time back in /gradeschool/ for not wearing or giving a damn about nail polish and preferring reading to giggling about boys I'm not sure they are really interested in beyond because it's trendy yet, but point of the matter is: Geek Girls don't have it easier. I've heard about geek boys whine about how it's easier for the girls because girls can get dates no matter what, um
1) How can they say this when they rate us below conventionally pretty girls? Or girls following conventions.
2) Sexual harassment douchebags, ever seen Carrie? Because um, if you are a geek girl before geek was remotely chic, there will be boys in your class who'll see you as good enough for sexual harassment, but not good enough as girlfriends, who act as if their unwanted attention upon my body is a FAVOUR for me.
In general, unsubs are unsubs and they belong in jail. Occasionally there are some that deserve sympathy and medical treatment, for example, Samantha Malcolm. I don't think I can stay mad at her even if she had sewn a wig onto my scalp, because good god, her creeper father, I think she was the victim and her father was the villain.
In this episode, I have zero sympathy for Caleb, ZERO. Caleb is his name right?
...and Garcia is so adorable in this episode with her mega neko ears, and how come this episode is titled True Genius but no mention is made of how Garcia narrowed down who the two unsubs could be with her neat database shifting skillz?
Furthermore, and I say this as someone who, back in highschool, was one of the five members of the chessclub who got to play tournament, chess is a hobby, it requires forethought but being good with it doesn't crown you the master of the universe. Smart People Play Chess, but an increasingly apt trope I see is, "former prodigy present-day washout obsess about chess", fitting and sad.
...and yeah, at the end of the episode it was revealed that he wasn't obsessed with the girl, he was obsessed with his dominant partner, but at the point, rant already present! ...and he's definitely one of those geek boys who can whine about being the victim of alpha males while sexually exploiting girls. Why can't more geek boys be awesome like Barack Obama?
At the party they were having at the very beginning, I began to suspect that Caleb was obsessed with his friend, not the girl, and it was confirmed for me when he said "Your soulmate is standing right in front of you."
