i briefly considered it, but it would just make no sense whatsoever. reid is obviously on the cases in the next few episodes (as seen from pictures of the upcoming eps) and not in some kind of containment for the murder of a child. i understand that he was only 4, but some form of charges need to be filed against him even so - murder cases never have statutes of limitations and he'd have to be punished in some way. and obviously he wasn't fired (which is something i think they'd do immediately.)

if just to humour the theory itself, i'd say the only way it would be believable/possible is if riley was attacking reid/trying to sexually abuse him (because riley was obviously molested and he might have snapped and turned it on reid to prove that he wasn't powerless to himself [i've read many cases where kids as young as 5 will do this to those weaker than them]) and reid just started stabbing at him in defense and ended up killing him.

i think reid being sexually abused is more likely as i watch the promo and see reid's dad touch him and stand over him as a kid as he sleeps, but you know my thoughts on how that'd fuck with continuity already so i'm still skeptical. plus, i think it might be too much to have two of the main characters both have been sexually abused as kids (though reid was dramatically younger than morgan)

The thing about promos is they love to lie. I could easily see the scene with William Reid standing over a sleeping Spencer (if that's who it is - I couldn't tell if it was Andrew Astor or not without the glasses) being a perfectly innocent father-son thing. Like maybe William just saw something to do with the case of a little boy murdered and went to check on his own son. It could be any number of things, and I have to agree that having two male main characters with sexual abuse in their past is pushing it a bit.

I completely agree about them lying, and i don't believe Reid was molested by his father because of the established background we already have on Reid's family. But if we're comparing killer!reid and molested!reid - you have to admit that the latter is more likely lol.

Agreed. The logistics of 4-year-old killer!reid are just mindboggling, so if it's between the two, molested!reid is more likely. I'm still holding out for a last-minute twist(dark) ending, though. Something none of us will see coming...

I hope so! But here hasn't been any news on Reid angst past this episode, so either they're really good at keeping it on lock down or the events in this episode aren't enough to affect him that badly. In an interview from late Aug/early Sept, though, MGG spoke about this episode arc and said it's some of the darkest stuff in the show and that the fans will hate it, but he'll love it. So I can't help but hope we're not let down in that aspect and it's not something as simple as "reid's only childhood friend was molested and killed and he found the body". (yes, i know that's scarring for a child, but for this show? it's nothing lol)

I agree, I highly doubt that they would have two characters with similar pasts in the same team/cast. It's interesting that they are allowing it to be interpreted that way and what the actual outcome will be. I'm inclined to think that yes, Reid's dad might have been a pedophile but no, he did not touch his son.

That is my thought. They are trying to hard to make us think that Wm Reid is a bad guy.
