Yeah, we are seeing the team keep a sharp eye out for Hotch, but I'm worried this is going to blow up in Rossi's face. Hotch walked into a hostage situation with a vest! That's a pretty big warning sign
I was like 'woah' when he walked into the hostage situation, but feel for some reason that Hotch felt personally obligated to try and save the guy. Or maybe it was just because it was his first case back.
Maybe I have more faith in Rossi, but I'm hoping everything ends well.
Reid did the same thing "Elephant's Memory" - only with a vest if I remember correctly - and got verbally scolded by Hotch...maybe, like Reid said when asked why he did it, Hotch just left it was his turn to save someone (after, well, failing to with Foyet's victims, including himself). Either way I rather appreciated that irony of the show, haha!
...My bigger concern is that, well, no one saw who did the actual shooting of the UNSUB's dad, the UNSUB or Hotch.
It screams suspicious, doesn't it? And by the time the team enters the UNSUB (who looks utterly stunned) is already being cuffed and an almost so cool he's cold Hotch sorta throws out a "I tried to stop him" and that's it. ...Yeah...that's a little concerning to me.
Honestly, in the state that Hotch is in, I think he would just shoot. He left the scene way to quickly, and I agree it was very suspicious how it went down. I wouldn't mind seeing Hotch turn into a vigilante, or something along those lines (not another Elle) but I think we'll see more questionable tatics from Hotch that might get him into trouble.
I hope you're right, that it was the UNSUB and not Hotch that shot the man. I just noted that who shot the guy wasn't shown which concerns me some because, since the gun was being pointed at Hotch ("Don't tell me what to do!!") before it panned outside, we don't get to see what happened between that and Hotch, fully in charge, cuffing the UNSUB while the father is shot dead.
Though an argument against Hotch having anything to do with the shooting...that sort of vigilante justice behavior Hotch would highly likely consider a form of Foyet winning; changing Hotch (he's never been pro-vigilante), and making him more like the killers he hunts. That would be something Hotch would never stand for. Ever.
I can't imagine Hotch allowing the nutty UNSUB to take the fall for his actions, though. He would have claimed the father charged him, or something.
Remember "A Real Rain"? Vigilantes have a hightened sense of justice and getting an innocent (which the nutty UNSUB is; he was a diagnosed psychotic off his meds) to take the fall just isn't kosher.
I think the quickness of leaving the scene was either the blood smell was getting to him (flashbacks) or he was pissed at himself for not saving the father.
I think Hotch just stood there and didn't blink. I think he let the unsub kill his father. Or maybe he moved just a little too slow. But definitely intentional.
