Some very, very general s5 spoilers:
Question: Now that Criminal Minds has wrapped up the Reaper storyline, can we please get more of the characters besides Hotch? — Cecille
(Editorial comment from me: Hello? Yeah, like we get soooo much Hotch every season. God forbid we focus on him for a while.)
ADAM: Ask and you shall receive. Executive producer Ed Bernero promises much more of Dr. Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler, who has been sidelined because of a real-life injury) in the back half of the season. "There were some things we had planned for him that we had to just back off of. The guy is there every day for work, he just can't walk." Fine, so maybe we can expect some shirtless Morgan (Shemar Moore) in the meantime? "Anytime we can get Shemar's shirt off, it's a boon for us," Bernero says.
(Further editorial comment from me: Now people are gonna complain there's too much Reid. *lol*)

Date: Dec. 2nd, 2009 01:10 pm (UTC)I would still love to see him and Reid talk about the trauma of what they've been through at some point - both have been tortured, and it would be interesting to see them bond a bit over that. Hotch has (since early Season 2, I've felt), been pretty hands off on Reid, and doesn't really talk to him much for whatever reason.

Date: Dec. 2nd, 2009 01:52 pm (UTC)One of the things that I have always loved about Criminal Minds is that the show has always felt balanced in the amount of screen time and storylines for each member of the team -not just the so called leads. Matter of fact, I personally don't feel there IS a lead on the show.
We might know more about one character's past than another, but may know more about said character's present. For someone like me who likes the entire team, it makes for a happy camper. For those who dislike a character or simply have a favorite... There just really isn't a way to appease the masses.

Date: Dec. 2nd, 2009 02:15 pm (UTC)They're all so dependant on each other I can't really see how you can like one and not another. I mean, I have favorites too, but I don't not like somebody...that's kind of missing the point, in my opinion.

Date: Dec. 2nd, 2009 03:11 pm (UTC)Sort of unrelated, but I get why they're leery of writing romantic relationships within the team, but then your only option for romance is awkwardly writing in characters for the sole purpose of romance. Sometimes it works out well-- Kevin, and sometimes it just seems sloppy-- Will, Morgan's new lady (the fact that I can't remember her name is pretty telling.) And like it or not, shows need romance to get viewers.

Date: Dec. 12th, 2009 06:53 pm (UTC)And don't get me started on "Conflicted." Ah, yes, you should have noticed something so wildly improbable that there have been no clinical cases ever just because you got Stockholm Syndrome with the last wildly improabable mental illness despite all your spiffy FBI training to the contrary. STFU.
Nevermind that this is also someone who somehow managed to get hooked on dilaudid after three bad trips. WTF, I ask you. WTF. *headdeskfloor*
If the writers are going to put Reid in peril to make the Reid fans go all aflutter, they need to start doing some research first, IMO.
OTOH, Reid has gone back to his Season One level of Unbearable Awesome this season (I mean, "Derailed": he used his issues to take down the unsub with no whining), so here's hoping they don't wreck that for the sake of fanservice.

Date: Dec. 3rd, 2009 12:18 am (UTC)If we have to see more of anyone, I'd like more of JJ (or a Prentiss episode that doesn't feel like a Dan Brown novel crossed with a bad episode of the OC). JJ's the character I feel we have the least handle on, and she hasn't really had a centric episode or arc (the closest was the soccer girls one, I guess, but I've still always felt a kind of distance toward her that I haven't felt toward the other characters).

Date: Dec. 3rd, 2009 12:26 am (UTC)I would be very happy to see Morgan's current storyline continued, but I also desperately want lots more Prentiss, and more and better JJ and Garcia team-ups.
A season that feels light on Reid is a good season. They've used him effectively so far this season; I'd rather they didn't go back to last season's pattern where they're so eager to shoehorn in more Reid that they start developing offensive or just silly storylines to hang him off.

But mostly Reid. I'm excited to see what they have planned for him!
This isn't saying that I didn't enjoy the spotlight on Hotch, because it was just a phenomenal story line!

So much this!

Date: Dec. 3rd, 2009 07:06 am (UTC)The team dynamic has changed, now that Morgan is in charge ( even if it's just temporarily ), and I'd love if they built up on that. I'd love some friction between Morgan-the-leader and Rossi-the-know-it-all-been-there-done-that ( before anyone chucks rotten tomatoes at me, I like Rossi ). I'd love to see more of the slightly edgier Hotch, and I'd love if they actually dealt with the trauma he experienced, instead of just shoving it to the wayside, like they did with Reid's drug problem.

Date: Dec. 3rd, 2009 08:04 am (UTC)YESSSSSSSSS. There is not enough agreement available in the world that would describe how true this statement is
I definitely agree with you, though: they've never focused on Hotch in one episode, let alone a series of them. I enjoyed seeing a different side of him besides team leader.
But people will never complain of too much Reid. He pretty much rules the fanbase.

Date: Dec. 3rd, 2009 10:25 pm (UTC)We don't really need another Reid episode. And I say that has a Reid fan. I would like to see more of the rest of the characters...

Date: Dec. 4th, 2009 02:26 am (UTC)Reid is definitely one they all enjoy writing. JJ especially appears to be very bread and butter - fans may love her, but you can see the writers are fairly indifferent.
